After a year of war in Europe, people in Germany are divided over the right path to peace. This disagreement is also noticeable in Munich’s civil society. But we agree on one thing: our hopes and efforts for a better future must not fall victim to war. That is why we call on political decision-makers at all levels to:
- Humane equal treatment of all refugees: The warm welcome and support given to Ukrainian refugees must be extended to ALL refugees.
- Better living and working conditions for those in need, low-income earners, and the unemployed: Poor people suffer most from rising energy prices and inflation. They need greater relief.
- Intensification of climate and species protection: Climate and species protection are essential for our survival. These long-term efforts must be intensified and must not be sacrificed in favor of short-term considerations of warfare.
- Greater investment in healthcare: While investment in the military and armament is rising rapidly, the ongoing crisis in the German healthcare system is being ignored. Necessary investments are dismissed as unaffordable. People’s health must not be sacrificed in favor of the pursuit of profit and armament.
- Focus on nonviolent conflict resolution: Even aside from the war in Ukraine, the potential for conflict is increasing worldwide. Germany must make greater efforts to play a constructive role in the nonviolent prevention and resolution of international conflicts.
