Be a peace artist

Addicted to war

Kriegssüchtig is a political exhibition on the current debate about “war capability”, rearmament and the strategic realignment of German security policy.
On 13 posters (DIN A0), the exhibition analyzes the historical, financial and geopolitical dimensions of military rearmament – from the world wars of the 20th century to the present day.

Themes of the exhibition

The exhibition focuses on the following topics, among others:

  • “Becoming fit for war?”Historical classification
Parallels and breaks between current rearmament rhetoric and the experiences of the world wars.
  • Global and financial dimension of armament
Development of arms expenditure, effects on the national budget and welfare state.
  • NATO and Russia – Military threat or security policy construction?
Critical analysis of the claim that Russia poses a direct military threat to NATO.
  • German security policy since 1992
Analysis of the strategic reorientation after the end of the Cold War.
  • Nuclear weapons and new medium-range missiles
Reminder of the continuing nuclear threat.
Classification of planned deployments – for example at the Grafenwöhr military training area – in strategies such as “first strike” and “disarming strike”.

The exhibition also provides information about planned activities against the deployment of new missile systems.

Pupils’ art competition “Creative for peace – be a peace artist”

Since the launch of our 2023 student art competition, violence in armed conflicts has been escalating. This is precisely why a creative approach to peace seems all the more urgent to us.

We see a growing need for young people in particular to come to terms with this issue! With the art competition for pupils, we want to make our contribution and create a kind of platform for this emotional topic that directly affects pupils.

We have named the art prize after the Coburg pacifist Anna B. Eckstein. In the first half of the 20th century, Anna Bernhardine Eckstein was the region’s leading campaigner for the League of Nations and world peace. She was born in Coburg on June 14, 1868 and died there on October 16, 1947. An advocate of international understanding and peace, she has almost been forgotten today. Yet as the initiator of the World Peace Petition and supporter of the German and international peace movement, she is right up there with the winners of the Nobel Peace Prize.
