Francesca Albanese

Ms. Francesca Albanese was appointed Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 by the Human Rights Council at its 49th session in March 2022 and took up her duties on May 1, 2022.

Ms. Albanese is an associate scholar at Georgetown University’s Institute for International Migration Studies and a senior advisor on migration and forced displacement for the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD) think tank.

She has published numerous articles on the legal situation in Israel and the State of Palestine and regularly gives lectures and presentations on international law and forced displacement at universities in Europe and the Arab world.

Ms. Albanese has also worked as a human rights expert for the United Nations, including for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
