Political scientist and journalist KRISTIN HELBERG reported for seven years from Damascus on the Middle East for German, Austrian, and Swiss radio broadcasters as well as various print and online media. Today, she works as an author, Middle East expert, and moderator in Berlin. Her publications with Herder Verlag include Distorted Perspectives – Syrians Among Us: On Fears, Misunderstandings, and a Changing Country (2016) and The Syria War: Resolving a Global Conflict (2018). As a Mercator Foundation fellow, she researched the Syrian diaspora in Germany.
