Munich, February 6, 2026 – To mark the fourth anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine, the International Munich Peace Conference is bringing together representatives of civil society from Russia and Ukraine. The focus is on conscientious objectors and activists who evade war and accept repression, imprisonment or exile for doing so.
“These voices are not missing at the Munich Security Conference by chance. They do not fit into a security policy logic that relies on armament and deterrence,” said Maria R. Feckl, Project Director of the International Munich Peace Conference. The Peace Conference consciously sees itself as a civil society counter-proposal to a debate that is largely shaped by state actors and arms interests.
The event will focus on the experiences and legal situation of conscientious objectors in Russia, Ukraine and Israel. “We will hear about their commitment against war, about the human fate and legal consequences for conscientious objectors in Ukraine, Russia and Israel,” says Feckl.
The International Munich Peace Conference will take place from February 13 to 15, 2026 parallel to the Munich Security Conference at the Salesianum, Munich-Haidhausen.
