Nuclear war is a real danger

What Germany should do now for a world without nuclear weapons. A guest article by the spokesperson for nuclear disarmament at Greenpeace Germany.

If one had to give the international community of states a certificate for its performance with regard to nuclear disarmament, only with a lot of benevolence one could formulate a “you have always made an effort”. The situation is precarious: the Doomsday Clock is currently 100 seconds to twelve – humanity has never been so close to nuclear war. Instead of disarmament, billions are spent on nuclear weapons worldwide. The victims of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki seem to have been forgotten. But we must not forget these horrors, because nuclear weapons are, next to the climate crisis, the greatest existential threat to humanity.
