In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in violation of international law, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced the largest rearmament program for the German military since World War II. The military budget is soon expected to exceed NATO’s two percent target each year. Measured against today’s gross domestic product, this would then amount to around 70 billion euros.
