At this year’s peace conference, we tried to take the peace movement’s demands for non-violent conflict resolution further into civil society.
In the first part of the evening, the opening lecture, we dealt with the “turning point” proclaimed by Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Clemens Ronnefeldt, peace consultant at the German branch of the International Fellowship of Reconciliation, highlighted the consequences of the enormous arms build-up for civil society.
- What is the aim of this military “turnaround”? Will the €100 billion make us safer?
- What does this armament and the “financial and brain drain” into militarization mean for civil society, social movements and for us as a peace movement?
In the second part of the evening, the shift of finances towards militarization and armament as well as the consequences of war for civil society were the subject of a panel discussion. Representatives of the following civil society groups were represented on the panel: ver.di, the Munich Migration Advisory Council, Last Generation, the Fellowship of Reconciliation and, with you, the IPPNW.
