Growing challenges – and our resistance
The IMFK is organized by a group of eight peace organizations. In addition to donations and sponsorship contributions, the IMFK was financed for many years by the Cultural Department of the City of Munich and the Catholic Fund. Since 2024, however, this has come to an end. Two weeks before the start of the IMFK, the city council factions of the Greens/Rosa Liste and SPD/Volt influenced the allocation of funding from the Department of Culture in an irregular manner – as a result, the funding did not materialize. (The Catholic Fund also withdrew its funding.) In addition, there were increasing difficulties in finding space. In December 2024, the Catholic Academy in Bavaria terminated the Munich Peace Conference’s rental agreement without giving reasons. Municipal premises are hardly an option – too little trust remains after the short-term withdrawal of funding. The loss of public and church funding as well as public or church event rooms will make the planning and implementation of the IMFK considerably more difficult. We can only compensate for these losses through the solidarity of our participants, allies and friends of peace.
