The German government not only wants to increase the funding of the German Armed Forces, but also to upgrade it. To this end, it wants to allocate €100 billion in special funds in the short term and invest more than 2% of economic output in defense in the long term. Who is going to pay for it? The cabinet’s draft budget seeks to make savings in the civilian sector and cut the budget for development cooperation.
